POCATELLO  MEETING

 

 

TOPIC:             Fuel Cells and other Alternate Energy Technologies in Idaho

 

 

SPEAKER:      

Scott Gates – Administrator, Renewables and Net Metering

Idaho Power Company – Boise Corporate Headquarters

 

Mr Gates will discuss the current state of fuel cells and other alternate energy technologies.  He will demonstrate an actual working fuel cell system.  The status of other renewable technologies such as wind and solar will also be discussed.

 

 

BIOGRAPHY:

Mr. Gates is the Renewables and Net Metering Administrator for Idaho Power. Scott has been with Idaho Power for over twenty-five years with the last eleven years full time in the renewables and conservation area of Idaho Power.

 

He is a member of the American Solar Energy Society, American Wind Energy Association and past Renewable Energy steering committee member with the Electrical Power Research Institute and past board member of the Utilities Photovoltaic Group. Scott has coauthored several white papers with Sandia National Labs on Energy Storage Systems.

 

He has built, installed and maintained over fifty off grid photovoltaic systems from small fifty-watt systems to large eighty thousand watt hybrid systems. Scott is the liaison between Idaho Power and it’s customers that install renewable energy systems that first use the energy themselves and then send any excess power back out onto Idaho Power’s lines. This process is called Net Metering and currently has more than twenty customers participating.
