Topic: "Preparing for your First Job"
Brad Ellis, Hardware /
Software Engineer will talk about what, as a recruiter, he looks for in a potential employee.
Starting with resume and interviewing. Then he will talk about some of
the things that he wasn't prepared for in his first job and some useful hints.
Brad joined
Colmek in October of 2002 as a Hardware/Software
Engineer. Before joining Colmek
Brad spent two years working for Utah State University under the Center
for Self Organizing and Intelligent Systems (CSOIS) developing Omni-Directional
Vehicles/Robots.
While there he enjoyed working with small-embedded systems, DSP, and PCB
design. His skills/experience include TI DSP's (C and Assembly programming), Motorola HC12 and 332
programming, Visual C++, Visual Basic, Matlab/Simulink,
FPGA and CPLD (Verilog), and PCB design and layout.
As a key member of Colmeks software development
staff, Brad has played an integral role in the upgrade package to the AN/AQS-24
processing system. Programming on a VxWorks and Green Hills platform, Brad and the software team continue to
develop advanced, real-time, menu-driven Sonar display code that operates one
of the worlds most advanced mine-hunting systems.
Brad finished his Bachelors of Science in Electrical Engineering from USU in
May 2001. He received his Masters of Science in Electrical Engineering from USU
in 2003 with an emphasis in Signal Processing. In his spare time Brad enjoys
mountain biking, upland game hunting, and vacationing at Lake Powell.
